I can't believe it is the June already! Where has the time gone?! We have another fun filled week in kindergarten. Read below to see what we were up to this week!
Monday
We continued our work on measurement. We explore the concept of area (how much space a flat shape takes up) Students used counting squares to compare the area of two rectangles to solve a simple problem.
Tuesday
We went to literacy stations! Ask your child what station they worked at!
Wednesday
We wrote in our journals, using this picture prompt for ideas. Ask your child what they wrote!
Thursday
We observed the changes in our plant. Then we drew pictures and wrote about the changes that they saw. Ask your child to tell you what changes they saw. We also read a book about stems and learned what stems do for the plant. Ask your child:
-what do stems do to help the plant?
-what is a stem that people eat?
Friday
The PM class listened to the Fairy Tale "Goldilocks and the Three Bears". We talked about the setting and the characters and then we continued our work on retelling stories. Students practiced telling the story out loud to a friend, focusing on using connecting words like "First, Then, Next" to retell important parts in order. Then students drew pictures to represent different parts of the story!
Information and Reminders
Library Books due back before June 12th!
This was our last week signing out books from the library. We will now focus on getting all books returned to the school so that our librarian, Mrs. Barrowcliff, can do inventory and get the books all back in order for next year. Return library books as you finish with them and we will get them back to the library! Thank you! Mrs. Barrowcliff is even offering a prize for the class who gets ALL of their books back first!
Imagination Day
June 11th is Imagination Day. Student can choose to dress up as anything they choose! We will also plan some learning activities that involve creativity and imagination that day!
Other Important Dates
AM Class: Last Friday is June 12th
PM Class: Last Friday is June 19th
Last day for Kindergarten is June 25th
We will have a movie day to celebrate!
