We had a wonderful second week in Kindergarten. Students are starting to settle in to our routines and have been doing lots of learning. Read below to see what we have been learning about this week!
Monday
We started working on sorting! Today we practiced sorting by colour. You can practice sorting at home with so many things! Toys like blocks, legos or cars, buttons, or even helping to sort the cutlery with you!
Tuesday
Students worked on cutting skills. We learned how to hold the scissors and how to be safe with scissors. Then we practiced cutting shapes and glued them in our books to look like an ice-cream cone!
Wednesday
We did a step by step drawing lesson and drew a picture of a turtle. Students were then able to add details to their picture to make their turtle do something. Ask your child what their turtle was doing!

We learned our first letter! Ask your child:
We learned our first letter! Ask your child:
- What letter is this?
- What sound does it make?
- What are some words that begin with this letter?
What Can You Work on at Home?
Many parents ask what they can do at home to help their child feel more confident at school. If you are looking for things to do at home, here are some great ideas that will help your child find some independence in Kindergarten:
- Writing their name and naming the letters
- Reading and recognizing their own name
- Putting on jackets and zipping the zipper. This takes lots of practice but it is a goal we will be working towards by December!
- How to fix an inside-out sweater
- Cutting simple shapes or lines (square, circle, triangle, zigzag lines, wavy lines)
- Visit public washrooms, ensure your child knows how to lock and unlock doors and independently complete bathroom routines.
