Happy December! It is so hard to believe so much time has passed already. We had another great week. Read below to see what we have been learning!
Monday
We learned a new letter! It is another "superstar vowel". Ask your child:
- What letter is this?
- What sound does it make?
- What are some words that begin with this letter?
Tuesday
We talked about some of the seasonal chances we see in the winter. Then we brainstormed some ideas of different things we see in the winter. Then students drew a picture and wrote a sentence about things they see in winter. Ask your child what they wrote!

- accurately copying the sentence starter (for example "I see")
- recording the beginning and possibly ending sounds (or more) of words to finish their sentence. For example, a student may record "s" or "snm" for the word "snowman"
Wednesday
We met up with our grade three buddies and made some winter art!
Thursday
We used stickers to make different types of repeating patterns in our journal. Each student tried to make an AB pattern, an ABB pattern and and ABC pattern. Then they could make a pattern of their choice. Ask your child what kind of pattern they made!

Friday
The afternoon class wrote in their journal about things they liked to do in winter. Ask them to tell you about what they wrote.

The PM class also had an opportunity to explore 2D shapes at different shape centres. Here they had a chance to construct shapes with different materials and practice describing shapes by talking about their sides and corners.
Book Talk!
During read alouds, we have been talking about and focusing on characters. We learned that characters are who the story is about. They can be people, animals or even make believe things like aliens or monsters. We have also been focusing on learning things about the different characters in books by looking at the pictures and listening to the words.
