November 13th and 14th Update

This week was short but sweet! Hopefully everyone had a great break! Please read below for updates on what we have been learning

Thursday
We learned a new lively letter. Ask your child:

  • What letter is this?
  • What sound does it make?
  • What are some words that begin with this letter?

Friday
The morning class wrapped up our last little bit of learning about fall by discussing different activities that people like to do in the fall, such as jumping in the leaves or apple picking. Then students wrote in their journal about what they like to do in the fall. Ask them what they wrote!
Our goals for writing at this time of the year are:
  • drawing a legible and detailed picture to share ideas
  • accurately copying text from the classroom (such as sentence starters or words)
  • Sharing their ideas orally with teachers and peers

We also continued our learning on patterns. Students worked on making ABB patterns using different materials in the classroom.

Monday
We learned a new lively letter. Ask your child:

Tuesday
We did a guided drawing lesson to draw a picture of a fox. Students began the next step in journal writing which is copying words. When they were done drawing, they copied the word "fox" to label their picture.

Wednesday
We practiced writing our numerals to ten on the whiteboards.

Then we listened to the story "Ten Apples Up on Top". After listening, we practiced reading our numerals and representing their quantity by making sets of apples to match each numeral.

Thursday
We began our learning about patterns! We looked at some examples of repeating patterns in the real world. Ask your child to tell you some places we might see patterns in the world. You can even look for some at home together! Then we began creating our own patterns using classroom materials. We started today by making different AB patterns.

Friday
The PM class enjoyed their first Friday at school. We listened to the story "The Scarecrow" then we cut out shapes to make our own scarecrow!
