Weekly Update: February 23-26th

It was another great week in Kindergarten. Read below to see what we have been learning about this week!

Monday
We learned another new lively letter. Ask your child:

  • What letter is this?
  • What sound does it make?
  • What are some words that begin with this letter?

The grade 3's also came and did a Dragon Dance for us in recognition of Lunar New Year!

Tuesday
For science, we used our five senses to explore snow! We spent time both outdoors and indoors observing snow. We used our sense of sight, hearing and touch to describe different properties of snow. We also took a look at what snowflakes look like close up. Then students recorded a few words to describe snow in their journals and drew a picture of a snowflake. Ask your child if they can tell you some of the properties of snow!  (cold, wet, soft, light, white, quiet, crunchy, powdery, sparkly)

Wednesday
Today was Pink Shirt Day! Pink shirt day is all about encouraging kindness and discouraging bullying. We talked about and drew ways to show kindness and respect to everyone and what we can do if we see someone being mean, unsafe or bullying. The morning class also had the opportunity to attend the schools Pink Shirt Day assembly.

Thursday
Mrs. Noftall was away today. Mrs. Dang read us the story "The Mitten" by Jan Brett. After reading, students chose an animal to draw in their mitten. When they were finished drawing, students tried to sound out the name of their animal. Ask your child what animal they drew in their mitten!

Other Information and Reminders
  • No school tomorrow: Friday Feb 26
  • AM Class attends on Friday, March 6th
  • Remember to always dress for the weather! There will still be some colder winter weather in the next month. Please make sure to send a hat and mittens with your child every day. Me may not go outside every day but we often choose to go out on days where we do not have gym or music. Winter boots and snow pants are recommended as well. This lets students have lots of fun playing in the snow! *There is a chance students will be going outdoors on Monday. Make sure you come prepared!
