Weekly Update: December 14th-19th

We had a very fun and festive last week before winter break! We had some fun winter and holiday themed centres, such as gingerbread playdough, playdough Christmas trees and sensory snow. Read below to see what we else we have been up this week. Also, see below for some ideas to practice some skills and concepts over winter break.

Monday
We learned a new lively letter. Ask your child:

  • What letter is this?
  • What sound does it make?
  • What are some words that begin with this letter?

Tuesday
We read the story "Bear Stays Up For Christmas". We talked about the characters and the setting.
  • Characters: Who is in the story
  • Setting: Where and when the story happens.
We also brainstormed some things we knew about the characters. These can be thing like what the characters look like, their personality, or what they like/dislike.
Ask your child to tell you about the story:
  • What was the setting?
  • Who were the characters?
  • What do you know about bear? (Possible answers: He's a bear, he's furry, he's big, he's brown, he is kind because he surprises his friends with presents, he likes to sleep)
These are all great things to talk about after reading other books at home!!

We met up with our grade 3 buddies today! The morning class had fun playing outdoors with their buddies. The afternoon class had a Christmas Tree building challenge withe theirs.

Wednesday
We continued our work on representing (showing) numbers. We practiced different ways we can represent the number three. Ask your child to tell you or show you how they can represent number 3. You can follow the link below to watch a song about representing the number 3.

Thursday
The morning class had their PJ and movie day. The PM class did a directed drawing lesson of the Grinch. Check your red folders to check it out!

Friday
The afternoon class had their PJ and movie day!

What can you work on at home?
If you are looking for something to work on over the winter break, read below for some ideas!
  • Check in to see if your child is comfortable writing their name (by memory, without needing to copy it).
  • Practice counting and printing numbers to 10
  • practice naming, writing and identifying letters and sounds. So far in class, we have learned and have been practicing the following letters: a, o, t, d, p, b, f, v, m, n, k and g.
  • Draw pictures together. Help your child label their picture by listening for sounds in the word.
  • Have your child practice putting on their own winter gear and zipping up their zipper.
  • play board games together to practice counting and taking turns
  • spend time playing outdoors
  • make crafts! This is a great way to practice cutting!
  • read books together!
Dates and Reminders:

  • Classes resume on January 5th, 2026
