Weekly Update: January 26th-29th

 We had a great week in kindergarten! Read below to see what we have been learning about! 

Monday
We learned a new lively letter. Another "superstar vowel"! Ask your child: 

• What letter is this? 
• What sound(s) does it make? 
• What are some words that begin with this letter?

Tuesday 

We continued our work in number by working with the number 7. Students placed number 7 on a number line and worked on different ways we can show the number 7. Ask them to show you or tell you some of the ways they can show 7.

Wednesday

In social studies, we reviewed the different groups be belong to and how these groups make our life better. Then, we thought of different ways we could help, or contribute to our different groups. Ask your child to tell you what they drew. 

Thursday 

In science, we started our work on Motion by sorting things that move fast or slow. Students cut and sorted pictures of objects that move fast and slow.  Ask your child if they can tell you different things that move fast or slow.

Valentine Cards 

Students will be invited to bring Valentine cards on Wednesday, February 11th if they choose. If your child chooses to bring cards, we ask that they bring enough for everyone in their class. We also ask that no edible items, such as candy, chocolate or treats be sent with the cards. While this is very kind, we have a lot of allergies and food restrictions and our school's policy is we do not share food. Any food items sent will have to be sent back home. 

Both AM and PM classes have 21 students. Students can address each card "To My Friend" and then sign their own name. Students are not yet able to read each others names so addressing each card by name makes handing out cards too tricky!

• AM Class attends on Friday, February 6th 
• Valentine Cards can be handed out on Wednesday, February 11th
• Popcorn Fundraiser Day: Wednesday February 11th. If interested, orders can be placed online at healthyhunger.com. Popcorn orders will be sent home. 
• No School Thursday February 12 and Friday February 13th (Teachers Convention) 
• No School on Monday, February 16th (Family Day) 
• PM class attends on Friday February 20th

Weekly Update: January 19th-23rd

We had another fun filled week of learning. Read below to see what we have been learning about this week! 

Monday
We learned a new lively letter! Ask your child: 

• What letter is this? 
• What sound does it make? 
• What are some words that begin with this letter? 

Tuesday 
We wrote in our journal! Students were given a picture prompt of a lion. We used the sentence starter "I see" to write sentences about the picture. Ask your child what they wrote about the picture. 

Wednesday
We continued our work on number by working with the number 6. We placed number 6 on a number line and found numbers that were bigger and smaller than 6. Then we showed number 6 in as many ways as we could. Ask your child to tell you or show you the different ways they can show 6! 

Thursday 

In social studies, we continued to talk about the different groups we belong to. We already know that we belong to a family, but there are so many other groups we all belong to, like our school, class, neighbourhood, teams, lessons or clubs. We talked about how belonging in these groups helps us meet new people and learn new things. When we belong to a group, we help each other, spend time together and look out for each other! You can listen to this song together about belonging! 

Students drew pictures of different groups they belong to. Ask them what they drew! 

Friday
The afternoon class reviewed the names of 3D shapes and went on a 3D shape hunt around the school, looking for things that are shaped like 3D shapes. Then we came back to the classroom and drew some of the things that we found. Ask your child to tell you about it!
