Tuesday
In math, we continued our work on patterns. We read the book "Pattern Fish". Then we practiced making ABC patterns. Students colored their own pattern fish with and ABC pattern.

Wednesday
In math, we are also learning about and exploring 2D (flat) shapes. We played "guess my shape" as a class, where the teacher or one student gives clues, such as how many corners or sides it has, and the other students have to guess the shape. Then we practiced cutting out and drawing simple shapes, such as circle, square, rectangle and triangle. Ask your child: How are squares and rectangles different? How are they the same?

Thursday
We read the story "Shape Stories". In the story, it showed us how we can put different shapes together to create pictures. After reading, we combined shapes to draw a pig. Then students were encouraged to add details to their picture to make their pig do something. Ask your child what their pig was doing!
OPEN HOUSE THIS EVENING! Tonight we are holding an open house between 5:00 and 7:30. Students can bring their families and show them around their classroom. There will also be food trucks on site if you want to treat yourself to dinner!

What can you work on at home?
What can you work on at home?
There is no requirement in Kindergarten to complete homework or do any serious work at home. But if you are looking for something to do to help your child have a successful year, here are some ideas:
- Build hand strength: in order to print letters and words or draw pictures, children need to build their hand muscles. Playing with playdough, building with Legos, peeling tape or using hole punches are just some ways to build their hand strength.
- Practice writing their name
- Independence: Encourage your child to put on their own jackets and start practicing doing the zippers. Also practice opening and closing snack containers and changing their own clothes in case they need to at school.
- Less screens, more outdoors and movement: Encourage your child to be comfortable playing outdoors in all different types of weather, focusing on wearing the proper clothing to be comfortable. Running, climbing and other gross motor skills are also a very important part of developing their writing and drawing skills.
