Mrs.Noftall's Kindergarten : Weekly Update: September 14th-17th

We had another fun week in Kindergarten, learning, playing and getting to know each other. Read below to see what we have been up to this week!

Monday
We learned a new lively letter. Ask your child:

What letter is this?
What sound does it make?

Tuesday
In math, we continued our work on patterns. We learned that patterns can have more than one of each element.

In the first pattern, the basketball would be "A" and the apple would be "B". Since there are two apples that repeat each time, we call that an ABB pattern. The second pattern has two rectangles and one trapezoid so we call that an AAB pattern.

Wednesday

We read the story "We Don't Eat our Classmates". This lead to some discussion about "expected" behavior and "unexpected" behaviors at school. Sometimes, when a classmate does unexpected things, like hitting or yelling, it makes us feel scared or sad.

We expanded on this by talking about our three rules in our kindergarten class.

Take care of this Space

These three rules cover a lot of things! We discussed how our biggest goal at school is that everyone should feel safe, feel happy and be able to learn! Students drew something they can do at school to make this happen. Ask your child what they drew!

Thursday
We drew a self portrait! We focused on drawing faces with more detail and drew a picture of ourselves. Our portraits will be hanging in our classroom for the year to decorate our room and remind us that we all belong! We will bring them home at the end or kindergarten. We are excited to show them to you at meet the teacher night on September 24th.
